Soft Tomahawk Axe Throwing Risk Assessment — Learning Through Safe Target Fun
How we run axe throwing with soft equipment safely, giving young people the chance to try new skills with confidence.
RISK ASSESMENT
9/6/20241 min read
Soft tomahawk axe throwing might sound adventurous — and it is — but with our careful planning it’s also completely safe. This risk assessment allows us to introduce a fun target sport while keeping wellbeing first.
We prepare for:
Stray throws — supervision at all times, controlled ranges and clear safety lines
Collecting axes — strict routines, no running, approaching from the side only
Technique — teaching safe throwing methods and correcting mistakes quickly
Trip hazards — tidy ranges, tied laces and clear walkways
Equipment care — regular checks, repairs and locked storage when not in use
By combining structure and supervision with fun, soft tomahawk sessions give young people the chance to try something new in a safe, confidence-building way.
