What a weekend! A huge thank you to Chip for organising a fantastic 25th Allerton Scout Group Family Sleepover at Blackpool Tower. It was packed with new experiences, laughter and memories that will last.
We began at Sea Life and loved meeting Phoenix, the giant green sea turtle who was rescued from the Cayman Islands as part of Sea Life Blackpool’s “breed, rescue, protect” programme. We learned that green sea turtles are herbivores as adults, eating seagrass and algae, and their body fat is actually bright green. Nature is amazing.
There was more oceans learning too, including the quirky turbot. They begin life round bodied with an eye on each side. As they mature their bodies flatten, and one eye moves across to the upper side, which gives them that distinctive flat shape.
After some free time and a light lunch, we headed to the Blackpool Tower 4D Cinema, then up to the Tower Eye. Many of us dared to stand on the glass roof at the top and drink in the views.
Next came the circus. Acrobatics and daredevil stunts performed just feet away had everyone gasping. Later, the historic circus arena became our bedroom as we rolled out mats and slept in the ring. Even the rain could not dampen spirits during the World Fireworks Competition, which lit up the sky in spectacular fashion.
What our families said
“Excellent 4D Tower cinema. I wanted to watch it all again immediately.”
— Jane, Team
“I loved the sharks, the circus, standing on the glass roof and the fireworks. Everything!”
— Max L, Cub Scout
“Thank you so much for such a brilliant weekend. We are so grateful for all the thought and organisation that went into it. It will be a trip Thomas remembers forever. xx”
— Alison, with her Cub Scout son Thomas
💛 A heartfelt thank you once again to Chip and to everyone who helped make this adventure possible. What a trip.
