Our Beaver Scouts have been learning how small choices can make a big difference — and they’ve done it with big smiles and even bigger imaginations!
They started by exploring the Fairtrade logo, using their creativity to guess what the colours and shapes might mean. Together they discovered that the logo can look slightly different on some items and that there are different Fairtrade standards and labels depending on what’s being produced.
You can learn more about these here:

After sharing the items they’d brought in from home — and realising how many of our everyday foods can be Fairtrade — they enjoyed the serious challenge of tasting Fairtrade bananas and chocolate (a very popular task!). Then came Fairtrade Bingo, which proved a big hit and helped everyone recognise which products carry the logo.
At the end of the evening, all of the Fairtrade items were donated to St Mary’s Grassendale Food Pantry, part of the local Your Local Pantry network. You can read more about this wonderful community resource here:

It was a fun, hands-on hour of learning that also ticked plenty of badge boxes, including Global Issues and Community Impact.
Meanwhile, our Cub Scouts are looking ahead to a Recycle and Reuse Week, with a Community Christmas Jumper Swap Shop and a session exploring the life-cycle of a T-shirt — from cotton plant to wardrobe. They’ll be discovering how small changes in what we buy, swap or reuse can help protect our planet.
Every step, every conversation and every shared chocolate square helps our young people understand that “loving your world” is something we can all do — one fair choice at a time.
💚 Well done Beavers and Cubs for showing how caring for others and for the planet can be such fun!
