Caring for Our Community Safely - Litter Picking Risk Assessment
How we keep our young people and volunteers safe while making a positive difference in our community.
RISK ASSESMENT
1/6/20241 min read
Litter picking is one of our favourite community service activities. It teaches care, pride and responsibility — and it helps young people see the difference they can make. Our Litter Picking Risk Assessment ensures this work is safe, structured and enjoyable for all.
We think about:
Road safety — hi-viz jackets, traffic awareness and safe crossings
Equipment use — providing litter pickers, gloves and safe bag handling
Weather and terrain — choosing suitable clothing, sturdy shoes and safe ground
Boundaries — clear supervision, headcounts and keeping groups together
Hygiene and hazards — never touching litter directly, careful handling of sharp or hazardous waste
This way, families can feel confident knowing litter picks are both safe and rewarding — building community pride while protecting our young people.
