🌿 The Willow Walk – A Special Hike for Squirrels, Beavers and Families
Our annual Squirrels and Beavers family hike began in 2022 and has quickly become a favourite tradition for our young adventurers and their families.
The very first walk took place at the beautiful Hale Lighthouse circular route by the River Mersey. Since then, every year between 40 and 60 Squeavers and their families have come together to enjoy a couple of hours exploring nature, chatting with new friends, and finishing the day with a well-deserved ice cream and picnic.
Everyone taking part works towards their Hikes Away staged badges, and the day is always filled with fun, laughter and plenty of special moments.
To keep things exciting, we now alternate the location each year. One year we visit Hale, and the next we head to Spike Island in Widnes, where we walk under two of the River Mersey bridges and follow the paths along the coastline and canal.
In 2023, this hike was renamed The Willow Walk, in loving memory of Jane Morrey, known to many as Willow. Jane was one of our devoted Beaver Scout Leaders and a wonderful part of our Scouting family. She had a true passion for the outdoors, and her care and dedication helped shape and risk assess these walks from the very beginning. Her spirit continues to guide us every time we set off on the trail.
We invite you to join us for next year’s Willow Walk and be part of something truly meaningful.
You can find the date for the next walk on our calendar. We look forward to walking with you.
