Wingding Wonders — Squeavers Make a Splash at Tawd Vale

33 Squirrels and Beavers spent a brilliant Saturday trying everything from archery to zorbing — and one leader learned not to make watery promises

**SQUIRRELS · BEAVERS · ACTIVITIES**

When 33 young Scouts aged 4–8 descend on Tawd Vale for a County Wingding, you know it's going to be memorable. What we didn't predict was quite how memorable — or quite how wet one of our leaders would get.

Saturday 13th June saw our Squeavers join Cub Packs from across Merseyside for a full day of adventurous activities at the Tawd Vale Adventure Centre near Ormskirk. While the Cubs camped all weekend, our younger members came for the day — and absolutely made the most of it.

**A Day of Everything**

The activity list reads like a Scout wish list: climbing wall axe throwing archery zip wire zorbing trampolining fire lighting water sports cave bus craft tent . Oh, and a Viking enactment, because why not.

But the standout moment? We have photographic evidence of a team member jumping fully clothed into the water — because a Beaver Scout wouldn't get in the boat unless he did first. That's commitment to the cause. That's #SkillsForLife. That's also a very soggy drive home.

**Badges, Boats & Brave Faces**

The day earned everyone their Paddle Sports Staged Badge, Time On The Water Staged Badge, and My Adventure Challenge Badge — a brilliant haul for a Saturday out. From tentative first paddle strokes to confident zip wire launches, it was a day of firsts and brave faces.

"Jack and Ben had the best day! Thanks to everyone for looking after them and organising such a wonderful day!" said one parent. Another reported: "Oliver said he had the best day ever. So thank you all for making that happen."

Lunch was shared with the Cubs at base camp, where our youngest Scouts got to see what camping might look like when they're a bit older — tents, campfires, and probably slightly less supervision than their parents would prefer.

**Thank You**

Huge thanks to the Squirrel and Beaver Scout Teams — all ten adults who helped look after 33 excited children, encouraged trying new things, and (in at least one case) got properly soaked in the process. Your patience, energy and willingness to jump in — literally — made the day what it was.

Thank you also to the Merseyside Scouts County team and all the groups who attended from across the region. Days like this remind us why Scouting works: shared adventures, shared laughter, shared memories.

**What's Next?**

Our Scout Troop are already eyeing next summer's Merseyside Scouts County SPLAT event at Tawd Vale. If it's anything like Wingding, they're in for a treat.

If you know an adult who'd love to help make days like this happen (waterproof trousers optional), we'd love to hear from you. Drop us a line at info@25th-allerton.com.
