Pumps, Punctures and Promenade — Scouts Cycle to Town
Thirteen Scouts, a stiff headwind, and 7.4 miles of Liverpool's finest views — what could go wrong?
**SCOUTS · ACTIVITIES**
Tuesday evening saw our Scout Troop swap the hut for the handlebars as they cycled from Otterspool all the way to the city centre and back — 7.4 miles of pedal power, problem-solving, and pure determination.
The route followed the Promenade, which gave spectacular Mersey views but also delivered a headwind strong enough to rename the ride "Cross Training for Tour de France." First stop? Puncture repairs. Then a front brake adjustment. Then ice lollies, courtesy of Sandra, which somehow made everything better. Joe and Ruth kept spirits high as the group worked together to encourage each other through every gust and gear change — because #SkillsForLife includes knowing when to just keep going, and when to stop for an ice lolly.
The adventure wasn't just about the distance. The Scouts also found a few geocaches along the way, combining navigation with cycling, and proving once again that Scouting makes everything an excuse for treasure hunting. The return leg was pure joy — wind behind them, morale sky-high, and a race back to Otterspool that left everyone tired, triumphant, and absolutely shattered.
**What the families said:**
*"Zac loved it"*
*"Henry's had a fab evening!"*
*"Eddie loved it, even with his broken wheel! He's absolutely shattered!"*
Special mention to Joe, whose dramatic dismount (read: fell off his bike) went mercifully unwitnessed by the entire group. Dignity intact. Just about.
Huge thanks to Joe, Ruth and Sandra for leading the ride, keeping everyone safe, and supplying the all-important ice lollies at the halfway point. Thanks also to the parents who cycled alongside and kept watch — your support means everything.
Next up? Talk of a longer ride to Southport is already doing the rounds. Watch this space.
Fancy joining the team? We're always looking for volunteers to help on Tuesday nights — cycling experience not essential, enthusiasm for ice lollies highly valued. Drop us a line at info@25th-allerton.com.
